- Select and practice previously taught words from Pre-K Skill Packets #1-18. Begin with Phonogram/Onset Rime families, e.g., (_at) (_en) (_in) (_ot) (_ut).
- Print rhyming words and draw pictures of each word to reinforce comprehension.
Circle words taught to entire class.
Short /a/: bat cat hat fat mat sat rat
Short /e/: hen men pen ten Ben
Short /i/: fin pin tin win
Short /o/: cot hot pot
Short /u/: cut hut nut
- Then, build on mixed phonogram words:
Short /a/: bag cap can cab dam fan
Short /e/: bed jet Jed net Ned wet
Short /i/: bib big dig hit pig rim six wig jig zip
Short /o/: box cob cop dog fox hop hog jog log mop rod
Short /u/: bus bun cup fun gum jug mug rug run sun sub
Begin teaching Alpha Call-Response words: (a-z) apple to zebra
- Introduce common noun-words familiar to students: animals fruit vegetables clothing shapes vehicles toys names.
- Teacher: dictate words and keep track of words used each day. Begin with short /a/ words and do similar lessons with each group until entire class has practiced. Then, move to next word group. Not individual students that require additional one-on-one help.
