Step 6: Work Books on Paper

  • Teacher: Fold two or more plain sheets of typing paper in half. Staple the spine with (2-3) staples. Check staples on back page; may want to tape over each staple to prevent sticking or scratching fingers. Make a booklet for each student in your class (excellent job for your TA or parent).

  • Front Cover (student print with crayon or markers)

  • Use same format as previously taught: make three letter-place-holder lines at the bottom of each page to print letters for words. Leave room at the top of each page to draw pictures.

  • Use words from Word Bank.

  • Page 1 (inside Front Cover: cat
    Page 2: hat
    Page 3: mat
    Page 4: sat
    Page 5: fat
    Page 6: bat
Page 7: (outside Back Cover): pat

  • Make booklets for all vowels a-e-i-o-u and phonogram families. Make animal, plant, people, toy, and other booklets.

  • Later in the year you may choose to have students print booklets using pencils.

  • Later: add phrases, and eventually short sentences.
